President’s Message - July 2010

On Sunday June 27, we had our very first Family Picnic at Whittier Narrows Park. The purpose of the family picnic was to bring together our members and their families, and to introduce West San Gabriel Valley Association of REALTORS ® (WSGVAR) to their families. Over 400 people enjoyed this fun and happy day. There were hot dogs, hamburgers, fruits, popcorns, cotton candy, and shaved ice, on that hot sunny day. Affiliates volunteered their Sunday afternoon with our members. I cannot thank Affiliate Chair Ruben Minjarez and all the affiliates enough for all the hard work they did for our association. International Committee presented the “Dunk Tank”, with help from our volunteer affiliates and leaderships. “Dunk Tank” was a successful and most popular game. Children enjoyed a variety of field games, balloons, jumper and many other exciting and challenging activities. Special thanks go to Bill Herrera, Cindy Wang, and Palm Pacific Realty, for contributing countless hours and resources to accomplish an idea that I had at the beginning of the year. Words cannot express my gratefulness to them.

I am happy and pleased that Mr. Albert Tran will be joining WSGVAR as our new Association Executive. He worked at the California Association of REALTORS ® (C.A.R.) as Director of Training and Technology Services. He helped promote C.A.R.’s educational programs which included forms, software products, educational courses, online classes, and many other seminars. I have received many congratulatory messages from many other REALTOR ® associations and members. We sincerely welcome Albert to WSGVAR.

Education is the soul of our association. WSGVAR has been well recognized as an association that offers the most educational classes. Of course, we are also known as “the fun association”! During the remainder of this year, more educational classes will be offered to our members. The Legislative Government Relations Committee will have a Legislative Forum on September 24 from 9 am to 12 noon. The International Committee will have “International Education Day” and International Food Fair. On July 26, Stella Ling, C.A.R. Senior Counsel, will be talking to us about HAMP/HAFA. C.A.R.’s Gov Hutchinson will return to WSGVAR on August 17 to update us on the Residential Purchase Agreement (RPA). Please check our weekly bulletins or www.wsgvar.com for class schedule,.

We have been working on getting a new website. The Website Committee, chaired by Brian Chen, has selected a company to design a brand new website for our association. We are expecting to have a new website in three months’ time that will provide strong member support and accurate information.

I have been reminded that I have only less than six months left in my term as President of our Association. The first six months have been very challenging for me. Many items on my agenda have been accomplished. I am hoping that more will be completed by year’s end with the support of directors, committee chairs, members, and our new Association Executive. I am fortunate to have a group of wonderful people supporting me. Without them, my position as President would be difficult, meaningless, and worthless. To all of my friends, thank you so much!

I will continue to work hard for the rest of the year. Thank you for your support.

Thank you.

Ling Chow , 2010 President
